Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of components that make up a lift truck. The lift truck's key parts include the truck frame, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a forklift consists of various types of attachments. All the components which make up a forklift are all essential because they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail some of the forklift parts.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would hurt the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on some units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move upwards and downwards while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and other attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are various attachments which can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. Moreover, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These different types of attachments are very helpful for transporting different kinds of loads.
